At the AGM, two members of the Tasmanian rowing community were awarded Life Membership of Rowing Tasmania in recognition of their extensive contribution and dedication to our sport.
Congratulations Phillip Fraser and Paul Newbon. You can read about some of their achievements here.
TIS/Rowing Tasmania Pathway Presentation
The Tasmanian Institute of Sport, in collaboration with Rowing Tasmania, will host presentations in the north and the south of the state focused on preparing for junior trials and exploring pathways for rowing in Tasmania.
The sessions will outline our process for identifying the top athletes in the state and we will discuss strategies to provide them with the best opportunities for success.
We'll also introduce the new Oceania U22 event - an updated version of the former Youth Cup - set to launch next year in South Australia, and cover development camps along with exploring ways to work more collaboratively to ensure we create an environment in which our athletes will thrive.
We are excited to have Olympian Sarah Hawe attending both sessions.
Athletes aged between 16-18 (Opens rowers), parents and coaches are invited to attend a Pathway Presentation session.
- Tuesday, September 17, 6pm-6.30pm @ New Town Bay Rowing Centre - Register here or by going to the Upcoming Events section on our website here
- Monday, September 23, 6pm-6.30pm @ the TIS, Launceston - Register here or on our website here.
Making Rowing Safer in Tasmania
The updated Making Rowing Safer in Tasmania document has been released.
Marine and Safety Tasmania (MAST) and Rowing Tasmania work collaboratively to help provide safety management information to the Tasmanian rowing community.
This important safety document is available here and on the Rowing Tasmania website (About | Policies, Documents & Forms).
Rowing Tasmania encourages clubs, schools, coaches, rowers, and other parties to make time to familiarise themselves with this document.
Safety on the water is everyone's responsibility!
Be part of the inaugural Head of the Huon on Sunday, October 20!
This 7km long-distance Head race begins at Franklin and ends at the Huonville Bridge and is held the day after the one-day State Club Regatta #1 (big-boats racing) at Franklin.
Entries for the HOTH are via Rowing Manager. Further details will be available here closer to the event.
ASC welcomes Gender Equity Policy
The Australian Sports Commission (ASC) has welcomed a new policy that will ensure sporting boardrooms across the country meet gender equity targets or risk funding being withheld.
The National Gender Equity in Sport Governance Policy is aimed at addressing the under-representation of women in sports leadership.
Central to the policy is Gender Equity Targets that have been set for the governance of national and state level sport bodies.
