Club regatta program overhaul
An overhaul of the race program will be introduced from State Club Regatta 3 on December 2-3 at Lake Barrington International Rowing Course.
The changes follow recommendations put to the Board of Rowing Tasmania by the Regatta Calendar Committe, led by Neil Stump.
The committee contacted clubs for their feedback and comment on program changes.
Rowing Tasmania would like to thank the committee for its thoughtful input.
Information on the upcoming changes will be available on the Rowing Tasmania website in the leadup to Club Regatta 3 and will be circulated to clubs and schools shortly.
Rowing Tasmania Board chairperson announced
At its meeting earlier this month, the Rowing Tasmania Board elected Mick Casey as chairperson. Mick had been interim chairperson since early June after interstate work commitments saw the then chair, Tim Morris, step down. Contact details for the Board Members can be found on our website here.
Child and Youth Safe Standards forum
A reminder that online forums are being held through October and November to help you understand how the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework applies to our sport.
The online forums invite all workers (including volunteers) from organisations that engage with children and young people to come and hear from the Department of Justice team supporting the establishment of the Framework.
These online forums will introduce the Child and Youth Safe Standards to sectors required to comply with them, including the Universal Principle for Aboriginal Cultural Safety, and connect organisations with useful information and resources to help them comply.
Sign up for an online forum to learn more.
Visit the Department of Justice Prepare for the Framework blog ahead of these sessions to see what you can be doing now.
You can find the link to register for the October 23 forum here.
Become a regatta volunteer - there is a role for you!
A session or two; a day or two - whatever the time you can offer, Rowing Tasmania and our shrinking band of BROs and regatta volunteers need your assistance to help us continue to run successful regattas for our club and school rowers.
Put your hand up to drive an umpire boat, dispense bow numbers, carry out safety checks, join the team at the finish tower, and more ... on or off the water, there is a role waiting for you.
You may even enjoy volunteering at our regattas so much you take the extra step and choose to become a Boat Race Official.

Beach Sprints included in 2028 Olympic Games
The International Olympic Committee announced earlier this month that Beach Sprint Rowing, a format of the Coastal Rowing discipline, will be included at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
In an email to State rowing bodies, Rowing Australia CEO Sarah Cook said: "I am delighted to advise that Beach Sprint has been included in the event program for Rowing at the LA2028 Olympic Games.
"Collectively, we have been working together to invest and build this discipline in Australia. After sending an Australian team to the 2023 World Rowing Beach Sprint Finals and successfully co-hosting the first two Australian Coastal Rowing & Beach Sprint Championships in 2022 & 2023 in conjunction with Rowing Queensland, RA is well positioned to continue working with the States in the growth and development of this discipline nationally."
