Dear athletes,

I hope this email finds you well. Rowing Australia has today released the Invitation Guidelines for the National Training Centres for the 2017/18 season. We have also opened the link for athletes to nominate for the National Training Centres and the Senior Australian Rowing Team for next year.

RA recognises that athletes moving to the NTCs are committing fully to CampaignNumberOne and the achievement of their full athletic potential. We are equally committed to supporting our rowers to achieve their sporting goals, and to assisting the broader personal and professional development of our athletes. In addition to supporting athletes to develop and progress to podium performances at the international level, athletes that are invited to train in the NTC will be provided with:

  • resources and support to proactively pursue vocational, educational and professional opportunities through the RA Athlete Welfare and Wellbeing Framework;
  • concentrated support to assist new athletes transitioning into the NTC, including the consideration of individual circumstances for athletes moving as part of Intake 2; and
  • concentrated support to assist athletes departing the NTC to transition into other aspects of their rowing or personal lives.

The document that you can access via this email, and the RA website, outlines both the criteria and process for athletes seeking to be invited to be part of the Men’s and Women’s National Training Centres. We encourage all athletes who wish to be part of our NTC environments to read in detail the guidelines.

You can access the NTC Guidelines here, while they are also on the Rowing Australia website here. The 2017/18 NTC and Senior Team nomination form can be found here and also on the RA website here.

Please note, nominations for the 2017/18 intake to both the Men’s and Women’s National Training Centres (and the Senior Australian Rowing Team) close on Thursday 21 September at 17:00 AEST.

This deadline is not relevant for Senior A eligible para-rowers, the nomination details for the Senior A – Para-rowing team for the 2018 World Rowing Championships will be confirmed in due course.

While we will not be doing a video conference to step through the guidelines like last year, we have made changes to the document to make it easier to read and understand. I am available to discuss the contents of the document with athletes via telephone, however will be travelling overseas from 1 September. Prior to that date I am available, otherwise email correspondence will probably be best as I will be in the USA ahead of the World Rowing Championships.

Kind regards,

Bernard
