Lake Barrington Infrastucture Project-Update.

In March of 2019, the Federal Government announced that Rowing Tasmania had been successful in an application for infrastructure funding under the Communities Development Grant program for the Lake Barrington rowing precinct.

The grant totalled $750,000 and will be used for the following projects.

Stage 1.

Davies Bay Lodge.

  • Re-clad the building exterior.
  • Replace timber with aluminium windows.
  • Lineout the balcony.
  • Re-model the men's and women's toilets including painting, shower stalls, new toilets and fit coin-operated gas shower heating units.
  • Paint the walls/floors and fit new toilets in the public toilets.
  • Install a laundry.
  • Paint bedrooms.
  • Carpet bedrooms and dining areas.
  • Replace staircase.
  • Install heat pump.
  • Update electrics.

Stage 2.

Seating & Traffic management.

  • Replace the treated pine seats from the turning circle to the finish tower with recycled plastic seats.
  • Replace treated pine post and rail structures with recycled plastic bollards.

 

Stage 3.

Rotunda.

  • Demolish existing structure due to it being declared unsafe by our Engineers.
  • Reuse as much of the timber structure onsite.
  • Reuse the stonework from the chimney.
  • Replace the structure with ColourBond and Steel similar in shape and size.
  • Install an electric double BBQ.

Stage 4.

Storage Shed.

  • Erect a 10 m x 24 m Storage shed behind the Rangers Hut.

Stage 5.

Camping Area.

  • Remove several trees that were classed as dangerous.
  • Remove stumps.
  • Replace water pipes.

Stage 6.

Toilet and Shower block.

  • Install and commission a shower and toilet building in an area behind the Kentish Sheds
  • 4 unisex gas showers.
  • 4 unisex toilets.

Stage 7.

Sam le Compte boat shed repurposing.

  • Install glass windows and line the veranda to display the 1926 Kings Cup wooden 8 “Tasmania”
  • Build a deck and Roof.
  • Move the coffee and bar from the Reeconians Centre.
  • Install a filtration system for drinking water.

Stage 8.

Fibre optic cable.

  • Install a communications fibre optic cable from the Regatta Office to the finishing tower.

In the boat park, the final pod of racks has been installed increasing our capacity to in excess of 560 boats.

This project was funded by the Tasmanian Community Fund.

The project is on track to be completed well before the 2021 National Rowing Championships in March 2021 and we will keep you updated.
