Position Objectives:

Maintain the internal aspects of buildings at Lake Barrington International Rowing Course to a high standard.

Buildings

 Lake Barrington International Rowing Course has a number of buildings that require cleaning:

    • Barrington Lodge accommodates up to 50 people in 10 units with shared shower and toilet facilities, a kitchen, and a communal dining hall. There is a small laundry with a dryer for use of guests and laundering of bed linen/towels/tea towels etc;
    • Davies Bay Lodge accommodates up to 30 people in dormitory-style with a commercial kitchen, shared shower, and toilet facilities. Two small rooms underneath accommodate 3 and 1 people respectively;
    • The Rangers Lodge accommodates up to 6 people in a dormitory-style with a shared bathroom and small kitchen. A communal sitting/BBQ area is attached. It is mainly used by Boat Race Officials and RT personnel during RT regattas and sponsored events;
    • The Reeconian Building contains the cafeteria, regatta management office, first aid room, shower, and toilet facilities, and a communal area for day use.
      The cafeteria is independently operated by a contractor who maintains and cleans it;
    • The Sam Le Compte shed houses RT/TIS equipment and has communal toilets at one end which are open during RT regattas and sponsored events and are heavily utilised during these times;
      There is also a coffee shop and indoor seating area which is open during RT regattas and sponsored events. 
    • The Public toilet block remains open at all times.

Duties:

  1. On a continuing basis, ensure:
    1. Building's interiors are clean and free of rubbish; and
    2. The toilet blocks, including the Public toilet block, are cleaned, rubbish removed and consumables replaced as required.
  2. Before, during, and after use of the facilities for Rowing Tasmania sponsored or endorsed events/ activities, ensure:
    1. Interiors of all facilities required for the event/ activity are clean and ready for use;
    2. All goods and chattels are available and required consumables have been replenished;
    3. Linen is washed, folded, and ready for use; and
    4. Any faults or defects in the facilities and any deficiencies in goods and chattels are brought to the attention of the Executive Officer.
  3. Maintain and appropriately use equipment supplied by Rowing Tasmania, and bring any defects to the attention of the Executive Officer.

Cleaning Tasks include but are not limited to:

    • Floors are cleaned - swept, vacuumed, and washed;
    • Toilets and showers are cleaned and hygienically maintained. This is required through the day during events and may service up to 1000 people;
    • Kitchens are clean and hygienic;
    • Internal rubbish bins are emptied and liners replaced;
    • Consumables (paper towels, hand wash, toilet paper, detergents, rubbish bags, etc) are replenished and replaced/reordered;
    • Surfaces in living areas are dusted;
    • Appliances, heating, and lights are turned on prior to guests arriving. If weather requires, light the fire in Barrington Lodge;
    • Launder tea towels and dish cloths for the cafeteria and provide them for each day of regattas;
    • Empty coin-operated shower receptors;
    •  Liaise with cafeteria manager to remove items from freezers to defrost;
    • Carpets cleaned as required;
    • Window cleaning as required;
    • Walls are free of cobwebs etc. and washed down as required, and
    • Exhaust fans cleaned as required.

Other Tasks

    • Meeting and greeting guests and ensuring they understand the operation of the facilities.
    • Available (on-call) for guest enquiries during their stay.

Scope of Work Performed:

§ The incumbent works under the general direction and supervision of the Executive Officer but is required to demonstrate personal judgment and autonomy in day-to-day priority setting, devising work plans, and performing the duties of the position.

§ The incumbent can expect to be allocated duties, not specifically mentioned in this document, that are within the capacity, qualifications, and experience normally expected from persons occupying positions at this classification.

Pre-employment Checks:

The following checks are to be conducted:

  1. Conviction check in the following areas:
    1. Crimes of violence
    2. Sex-related offences
    3. Serious drug offences
    4. Crimes involving dishonesty

Rowing Tasmania will require a current Police History Record Check to be supplied.

Selection Criteria:

  1. Good motivation and capacity to organise, prioritise and carry out the duties with limited supervision, under the regular direction of the Executive Officer.
  2. Capacity to communicate with and work effectively with Rowing Tasmania officers, rowers, coaches, and members of the community.

Qualifications and Competencies:

  1. Current Motor Vehicle License.
  2. Current Working with Vulnerable People registration.
  3. Competency with and a good understanding of the safe operation and use of equipment and consumables required to carry out the duties.
  4. Knowledge of proper sanitation/cleaning requirements for toilets/showers and kitchen facilities that meet current health standards, and safe handling and storage of related chemicals.
  5. Knowledge of and compliance with COVID19 health and safety requirements in all aspects of cleaning.

 

Working Environment:

  1. The position requires work outside standard hours, including nights and weekends.
  2. The incumbent is required to comply with Rowing Australia and Rowing Tasmania policies, including, but not limited to, those in relation to working with children.
  3. Rowing Tasmania is a smoke-free work environment. The Lake Barrington International Rowing Course regatta grounds and facilities are smoke-free.
