RACING RULES – IMPORTANT INFORMATION
ALL ROWERS MUST BE REGISTERED WITH ROWING TASMANIA Inc. or a Rowing Australia affiliated Club or School.
It is the responsibility of each club or school entering crews to ensure rowers are registered.
1 Safety of all crews and boats is paramount in actions undertaken by crews. Competitors must be proficient swimmers as well as experienced rowers and competent to participate safely in the event. Safety boats will be present during the race, but entrants should be aware they enter the races at their own risk.
2 To address safety concerns and promote fair play, a penalty system is in place. In the event of failure by a crew to comply with the rules set out below, a time penalty may be imposed at the absolute discretion of the race referee and be added to an infringing crew’s race time.
3 If not adhering to the advised course, an infringement time may also be imposed at the discretion of the race umpires. Failure to comply with an umpire’s instructions may also result in disqualification.
4 The start line will be located opposite Kentish Park at the northern end of the Lake. Officials will be on hand to marshal crews for the start.
5 Crews must stipulate their age classification as for State Club Championships in February 2019.
Masters crews must satisfy a crew age classification as for Masters Rowing in the Rowing Tasmania Rules of Racing.
6 Note bow numbers are to be collected from the Reeconian Centre before the 08:45am race briefing.
7 The race will be handicapped in accordance with the accepted international schedule. The handicap times will be advised to crews at the briefing.
8. For the race the shortest, safest and most practical course may be taken, subject to compliance with normal boating rules and respect for other lake users.
9. When being overtaken, crews being overtaken must yield by moving out of the way of the overtaking crew. However, the crew overtaking must not force any crew to move out of their way or risk a clashing of equipment. Overtaking must only to be done if it is clearly safe to do so and the move does not unfairly impact on the other crew. Crews that cause a clash of oars or interference may be penalised at the absolute discretion of the race referee.
10. When the first crew arrives on the 2000 metre course proper they are to proceed down lane 8 and subsequent crews are to then go down lane 7, 6 , 5 etc. which will allow a safe process for overtaking on the buoyed course .
