2025 Tasmanian All Schools Championships – UPDATE
The Board of Rowing Tasmania acknowledges the recent changes to School Championships have been less than ideal and the attracted criticism is not unexpected.
The decision promulgated earlier in the week provided for a program that is fair for the largest number of competitors. The program also is reflective of what is possible by the Regatta Manager with the regatta software in the limited time available.
Late yesterday we looked at options to spread events for junior rowers across the weekend. Consultation with the School Directors of Rowing and Clubs that support school rowers, and on advice of our Regatta Manager, it has been agreed the middle sessions for Saturday and Sunday will be swapped.
The format for 2025 Tasmanian School Championships will now be:
· Junior boys year 7, 8 and 9 will compete the first and last session on Saturday and the middle session on Sunday;
· Junior girls year 7, 8 and 9 will compete the middle session on Saturday and the first and last session on Sunday; and
· Girls and Boys year 10 and Opens compete Saturday and Sunday.
The Board notes the commentary regarding the inclusion in the calendar of junior regattas held on the same day at different venues. This approach was in response to the schools requesting one day competitions closer to their base that minimise the travelling for competitors and families. This will be reviewed for the 2025-26 season.
These changes at such short notice are unsettling, but the response to the consultation this morning is very much appreciated.
The entry portal will remain open until 10:00am Monday 17 February 2025. At the time of entering, if coaches rank their crews this will be of assistance with the seeding.
